The Journey To Clear Skin: Facials Or Products?

It's like I always say:
Getting facials without a good skin care routine at home
is like jogging to Krispy Kreme!

Especially if you're trying to solve a problem like Adult Acne.

The bottom line is that you need to have top notch products for home use.  Your skin won't get clear without them. It's that simple.

If you’re on a budget, skincare products for home use is where you should really put your money. Facials are great!  But without effective products for a skincare routine at home, you just won’t be able to get the results that you want.  If you need to choose between products and facials, you really should focus on products.

So what does a facial do in the first place? A facial from a licensed esthetician basically does three things:

1) Hydrates your skin more than you can at home
2) Exfoliates deeper than you can at home
3) Clears out pores in a way that you shouldn’t do at home

Extractions are the main reason that people with acne issues look for a place to get a facial. And it's true -- there are certain acne conditions where this procedure is needed once a month to get rid of an acne problem more quickly than with product alone (I like to think of it as throwing out the trash). Occasionally I have come across congestion problems that are not gotten rid of without facials.

I’ve heard clients tell me they’ve been told by dermatologists that facials are a waste of time because blackheads just come back the next day. Well, so does the trash in your garbage can. Does that mean you should never take out the trash?  What a proper skincare routine at home and a good, once-in-a-while facial will do, is make sure the trash doesn’t overflow the can.

So the question is, it actually possible to get your skin clear and healthy without facials? What do products do at home?

To properly clear adult acne, your skin needs attention on a daily basis to accomplish the following:

1.  Become pliable enough via proper hydration (and prevention of dehydration) to let your pores flow the way they're supposed to, so oil and dead skin cells don't accumulate behind skin that's been pulled tight by dehydration. This accumulation is what leads to congestion and breakouts.

2.  Removal of dead skin cells that accumulate not only on the skin's surface, but inside pores as well, which also allows pores to clear themselves out.

3.  Calming of the skin from inflammation that is on the surface of the skin, inside pores, and even developing at the cellular level.

4.  Regular killing of acne bacteria in cases where this is an issue (in adult acne, it often isn't!).

The bottom line is, facials alone will not get your skin clear, hydrated, or improve your skin's texture on a long term basis;  they should really be a tool to support a good routine of proper cleansing, balancing, hydrating and exfoliation at home. Getting regular facials while using the wrong skincare means your pores get a little bit cleared out and your skin temporarily hydrated, only to get dried out and clogged up in between all your appointments.  How does that make sense?

So the answer really is, no.  You don’t need facials in to have clear skin. It's nice to occasionally get them to potentially hasten the clearing of your acne.  However, 20% (and growing!) of my clientele are out-of-state, people I never see for facials! Clearing is very possible on a remote basis!  This also goes for locals who are on a budget.  We work together utilizing my Eval by Email® Adult Acne Clearing Program.

A great skincare routine doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg! Prices at Daniela’s webstore are comparable to the low-to-medium end of department store prices and even high-end of drugstore prices.
