The Journey To Clear Skin: Facials Or Products?

Getting facials without having a good skin care regimen at home
is like jogging to Krispy Kreme.

Especially if you're trying to solve a problem like Adult Acne.

The bottom line is that you need to have top notch products for home use.  Your skin won't get clear without them.

If you’re on a budget, skincare products for home use is where you should really put your money. Facials are great! They're necessary for optimal skin health and functioning, but without effective products and a skincare routine at home, you just won’t be able to get the clear results that you want.  So, if you have to choose between products and facials, you really should focus on products.

So what does a facial do in the first place? A facial from a licensed esthetician basically does three things:

1) Hydrates your skin more than you can at home
2) Exfoliates deeper than you can at home
3) Clears out pores in a way that you shouldn’t do at home

Extractions are the main reason for people with acne issues to look for a place to get a facial. And it's true -- much of the time extractions are truly needed. Sometimes this procedure is needed once a month to get rid of an acne problem more quickly than with product alone. (I like to think of it as throwing out the trash!) I’ve heard clients tell me they’ve been told by dermatologists that facials are a waste of time because blackheads just come back the next day. Well, so does trash in your garbage can! But that doesn’t mean you should never take out the trash.  What a productive skincare routine at home and a good, once-in-a-while facial will do is make sure the trash doesn’t overflow the can and becomes easier to throw out.

The takeaway from this should be that a facial doesn’t get your skin clear, hydrated and smooth; it maintains and enhances a good routine of proper cleansing, balancing, hydrating and exfoliation at home.

So the answer really is, no.  You don’t need to get facials in order to have good skin. But you should occasionally get them in order to hasten the clearing of your acne, keep tabs on your progress, keep skin looking great, and get it to its optimal functioning.  I'd like to emphasize there - keep tabs on your progress.  I'd also like to point out that this can indeed be done remotely by photos and email, as in my Eval by Email® program.

A great skincare routine doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg! Prices at Daniela’s webstore are comparable to the low-to-medium end of department store prices and even high-end of drugstore prices.  We can discuss whether you need facials and how often, if at all.
