As an
Esthetician specializing in Adult Acne and Sensitivity, acne in pores where oil
glands are larger due to being located in the “T-Zone” but where pore sizes are
smaller due to facial contours, is the most common problem I see in my clients,
both in the salon and in my online adult acne coaching service across the nation. Excess oil from all kinds of hormonal changes
rush into pores causing inflammation of pore linings, resulting in swelling,
redness and pain.
These
areas of larger glands and smaller pores are located on the sides of the chin,
around the mouth, the inner cheeks, and between the brows. Sometimes, the sides of the chin will also
extend to the inner jawline and lower cheeks.

Scarf Attack! How Your Winter Breakouts Can Be Prevented
Do you have new jawline and neck breakouts that are bad enough to have you running to your doctor? Don’t go making an appointment just yet… This winter is cold but the weather keeps fluctuating. Sometimes it's humid with snow, sometimes bitter cold and dry. Nothing else bears the brunt of freezing cold like your skin. But you know what, while everyone is familiar with the drying and chapping effects of frigid winds, very few people take into account how the weather might affect adult acne. What makes winter different, why would adult acne breakouts be any different than now?
The answer is friction.
What does Comedogenic mean?
For those of you with Adult Acne, this is real information you don't want to miss!
I’m sure
you’ve seen this term before.
Comedogenic.
Let's break it down;
Comedogenic.
Let's break it down;
comedo = an impaction of varying
size containing a mixture of sebum (fancy name for our skin’s oil) and dead
skin cells, often known as a “blackhead”;
genic = creating.
What can I expect after starting a better skincare routine ?
I get asked this question all the time, and rightly so. A great deal of trust is being put in me. The focus of my skincare practice is acne and sensitivity experienced by adults aged late-twenties on up. Why is that?
There are two reasons for
my focus on clients in their late 20’s and older.
One, I believe that those
of us who are looking for anti-aging products that won’t break us out and acne
products that won’t dry or irritate our more mature skin, are being largely ignored. I want to fill that void.
AcneWhispererTV: Ice Therapy
A sudden breakout before a big event. A recurring undergrounder right around your period that never seems to go away. An ongoing acne condition that plagues you every day of your life...
One simple thing -- a deceptively simple thing -- is integral in clearing up your breakout problems no matter the severity -- ice.
Why ice?
In all cases of breakouts, inflammation plays a great role in acne formation. Even bacteria can't bother a pore without the pore becoming inflamed first. If we first attempt to calm the pore down by cooling it off, we can prevent bacteria from becoming involved while also reducing pain and swelling at the same time.

Skincare Q&A: Ingrown Hair Madness
As an online esthetician, I spend many hours answering questions about adult acne, ingrown hair problems, rosacea, or general skin sensitivities. So! I thought that I would feature a skincare Q&A on my blog to address some of these issues.
There are some questions that are sent to me via email or through ChickRx, a now-defunct site where anyone could ask questions that related to various lifestyle topics, and experts (like myself) could offer valuable advice or suggestions. If you have any questions that you would like to ask (or have featured on the blog), please don't hesitate to speak out in the comments below! If you would rather have a question be answered privately, I am always available by email.
This week's Skincare Q&A features concerns about how to treat and prevent ingrown hairs and dark spots along the bikini line right in time for the warmer weather.
What Causes Ingrown Hairs?
Some people are more prone to ingrown hairs on the bikini line than others. What kind of ingrowns you get definitely makes a difference when it comes to how to get rid of them.
How do you get ingrown hairs?
Ingrown hairs are basically caused by three things:
8 Facts About Wax
While I'm an Adult Acne and Rosacea Skincare Specialist, I used to perform waxing services at my location in Chicago. Brazilian and bikini waxes were very popular at my facial and waxing studio, but over the years, I have actually realized that many women don't really know much about the waxing and hair growth process, even those who have been getting waxed for years!
With winter coming to an end and many people looking forward to their sunny Spring Break vacations this month, you might want to take these waxing facts into consideration before your next appointment. And if you're new to waxing, these pointers will help you have a much more manageable appointment.

AcneWhispererTV: All About Body Exfoliation
With the winter season slipping away, you might find yourself with dry, rough skin, a case of Keratosis Pilaris, or even body acne! As spring gets closer and you shed the layers of thermal long-johns, socks, and the rest of your winter gear, you'll find yourself needing to shed all the dead skin-cells that have built up all winter long.
In this AcneWhispererTV video, I explain just how you can properly exfoliate your body to get rid of that build-up and how to prevent KP or ingrown hairs!

A Remedy For Rough Skin
As with dry skin or with adult acne and dehydration issues, learning how to deal with the rough skin and calluses on your body can really be a pain of trial and error during drier months.
These rough conditions are actually designed to protect your skin from friction, pressure, and rubbing. It makes sense that the roughness would happen at the places that hold you up and help you keep your balance. The joints especially show signs of hard work -- your elbows, knuckles, knees, ankles, heels and the balls of your feet. However, despite the benefit, this roughness and dryness often feels like your skin has gone haywire and doesn't feel very comfortable.

How To Determine If Cleansing Wipes Are Right For You
And even if there are a few precious moments, it's just way too easy getting caught up being lazy or tired!
This is where the facial cleansing wipe comes in. I'm often asked about cleansing wipes and how they might be a substitute for washing your face with cleanser from a bottle.
Soothing Your Scary Skin
In the day or two after Halloween, you might notice that your skin has broken out in little red bumps or has become irritated. If you wore face paint, costume makeup, or even applied lipstick on your face as part of an outfit, there is a huge possibility that the oils and dyes in those products are causing your scary skin.
Face paint and costume makeup are chockful of oils and waxes that can be highly pore-clogging. When the natural oils in your pores aren't able to be freely distributed and are instead held back by other oils or waxes from beauty products, this excess oil will become stuck in your pores. The result of this oil abundance creates inflammation of your pore linings which then leads to swelling, redness, and, sometimes, pain.
